I put up my own creative agency. We have a passionate team of talented creatives doing meaningful work, mostly for small businesses and non-profits. I get immense fulfillment most days seeing the impact we’re making on our clients. But financially I’m at a crossroads. Part of the commitment I made when I married my wife is a certain standard of living, we have 2 young kids now, we want to own our own home, be able to send our kids to the best schools, travel more, etc. I see some of my friends who chose a more corporate career path and they have all these things.

I completely get what you mean by peak performance and balancing doing well, doing good and doing “me”. It’s not just about fulfilling my own potential, I’ve been blessed enough to know how to do that and to have the means by which to pursue a full life. The challenge really is enabling that in my people. I have thousands of employees… we want to continue the family legacy and build a great business that will be even more successful through the next 100 years… and I really think the path to getting there is empowering every one of my employees to fulfill their highest potential. That means balancing their success with their sense that they are living healthy, whole and meaningful lives.

I hope all is well with you. I was spending my morning reflection time in gratitude, and wanted to thank you.
I was reflecting on my journey here in Manila since I moved here in June, and I must say, you have deeply impacted my life in so many ways.
From the first time I met you at Techtonic, to that first Ignite Circle I attended at Globe Tower, and that fateful night at La Veranda, I truly believe that God crystallized a fire inside you that has changed my life completely.
As I reflect on my purpose and passion for the Philippines… when I consider the dark pain, struggles, fights, victories, and adventures that I have experienced to arrive here, I can't help but be stunned in awe and wonder.
The love, light, and power involved to create such a moment points to a most beautiful designer and painter of the universe.
Applying the lessons I've learned from Ignite, I'm absolutely certain that my internal GPS has called me to support and encourage this monumental and revolutionary mission that God has tattooed in your heart.- Founder & CEO of one of the country’s most successful startups
The highlight of my day is spending time with clients and seeing in their eyes that I am helping them get through a very difficult time in their life. It’s the same sense of fulfillment I get being a mother to my daughters, they’re also going through their own growing pains. My husband and I have journeyed this road together. Like most of our peers out of college, we did our own corporate gigs… we just couldn’t see ourselves spending our lives there. After a few years I ended up joining the family business... fulfilling work but after a while it was clear to me that I had this very strong need to start my own thing… not just to start my own business, but to create something that spoke to the pains I really cared about, where the creative approach came from something deep in me.

Doing “Me” is trickier than we think. Yes, it’s about "authentic living and self-expression", as you said. But there is so much ingrained in our psyche that makes this an every day struggle (and frankly an everyday failure). The other day I noticed I was feeling a bit down, my mind and my body hadn’t felt right for a few days. Then I realized it started when I was at a conference where everyone I met was just so accomplished, so successful, so original— it made me almost literally shrink about my own body of work and my own successes and all the unique and compelling things I had to offer. The moment I saw this pattern it helped me snap out of my funk… it reminded me of what your Ignite team has often said (I think it is enshrined in the Manifesto): we shouldn’t focus on what we don’t have, we should focus instead on what we have been given because we can only give out of what we have been given; we can’t give out of what we don’t have. Isn’t that the pinnacle of Doing”Me”, to celebrate and give out of our most authentic selves, instead of trying to be what the world tells us we should be? And by the way, the pressure to be like others (hello Instagram and FB!), to keep up we often try too hard, work too hard, try to do too many things, expect results right here, right now. Isn’t this the cause of so much stress and anxiety and priorities getting thrown out of whack. In the end, I doubt if it even results in success. You just burn out, you lose balance and perspective, you lose the authentic sense of who you are and why you’re here.
